The über-elusive, free-form,
improv-folk collective the No-Neck Blues Band
have more or less passed themselves off as a semi-existent
anomaly, releasing slews of hard-to-find records
and keeping their non-image a closely guarded
secret. In perhaps their most high-profile move
to date (not counting the release of their 2001
album Sticks And Stones... on John Fahey's Revenant
imprint), the NYC combo will release their next
full-length, titled Qvaris, on 5RC, a.k.a. 5 Rue
Christine, a subsidiary of Kill Rock Stars. The
5RC roster, which focuses on the more fringe and/or
bizarre acts aligned with the Olympia label, appears
to be an apt fit for No-Neck, who will join acts
like Metalux, Xiu Xiu, Deerhoof, Wooden Wand And
The Vanishing Voice and Excepter (featuring former
No-Necker John Fell Ryan). Other information regarding
Qvaris is as mysterious as the group themselves,
with only a few cryptic statements released by
the band, one of which describes the album as
"a slice of life, though not necessarily
human life."
